Reading Group with Alison Broom

Come and join us reading a short story together. Have a fun chat with others while enjoying reading/hearing some of the world’s best short stories. Anyone connected to Bloomhill is welcome.

No pressure on anyone to read or to talk if you are not quite in the mood but discussions will include – what you think is happening, what something in the story reminds you of, maybe a place you have been to, or maybe some feelings you recognise and relate to. Or maybe you don’t!

Stories can cause us to have many different responses, and in this group everybody’s opinion and contribution has equal value. We are not trying to analyse what the author is saying, (though we will probably be trying to work out what is happening to the characters in the story), nor interpret or criticise what anyone in the group is saying.  It is not who is right and who is wrong.  We are sharing our thoughts and feelings as we read a story.

The leader of this group is Alison Broom, a trained nurse and social worker, and through an organisation called Reading Revolution (see thereadingrevolution.org), she trained to lead this type of group. She has also accompanied some very close family members as they work through living with a cancer diagnosis.
